I would like to, as both Tower Shields and Bucklers are things I'd very much like to see in 6e eventually, but I don't feel like adding them to 5e. My proposed Tower Shield would grant +3 to AC but reduce movement speed by 10 feet. My proposed Buckler would add +1, but allow you to hold an item in the hand (but not wield a weapon).

A Tower Shield is a large shield that covers most of the body. It is usually rectangular and made of metal or wood. Tower Shields offer more protection than regular shields but are also much heavier and more difficult to use. While the Tower Shield doesn't exist in 5e, it is the perfect candidate for some homebrewing.

A good parallel in 5e would be to give him -10 speed and disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks using strength or dexterity. It's harsh, but fair.
